Die UnrealEngine 3, beziehungsweise das Unreal Development Kit gibt es für Programmierer nun umsonst.

Soeben habe ich in einem Forum ein Beitrag gefunden, der auf diese Seite weiterleitete: http://www.udk.com

Wie man unschwer erkennen kann, steht dort der Download der UDK von mehreren Servern kostenlos zur Verfügung. Es gibt zwar ein paar Lizenzbedingungen, doch soweit ich das aus dem Beitrag im Forum, und auf der Page lesen konnte, gelten die Lizenzen nur für kommerzielle Zwecke, nicht jedoch für den Hobbyprogrammierer, der seine Spiele nicht verkauft.

Die Engine kennt man bereits aus Spielen wie Unreal Tournament 3, The Ball und Whizzle.

1. The technology is going to develop robots that are free moving, so that we have to trace them. Also the intelligence of robots will be in some ways better than the human. In the near future robots are able to perform surgeries, do domestic tasks and elderly care. But there are also robots in development that are used as sex toys and robots with self-learning systems and consciousness, maybe executing lethal tasks or something like surveillance of demonstrations.
2. With developing more intelligent robots we have a mass of problems and issues that we have to solve. For example we have to constitute a “code of ethics” that limits the abilities of robots affecting human safety and health. We have to guarantee that illegal use is prevented, identification and tracing is possible and citizens are safe. Who is responsible for accidents, deliberate harm and sex appeal of robots. There are also issues about robots being able to have sex with humans or are self-learning, what is going to happen in every situation?
3. In the cartoon with the caption “Nurses in short supply – News item” a man is lying in a bed with a chart of health parameters on it. The situation seems to be in a hospital because the man gets medicine and a nurse is coming into the room, bringing a little device to analyse the man’s body temperature. The man is looking frightened, maybe because the nurse is not a human. The nurse is a robot , peeping “Good morning” into the room. The robot is not a complete android, but with something like a face and one arm. He’s moving on wheels.This could be a situation in our future . if robots are developed enough and our population pyramid is further leading to many elderly and few young people we have to use robots in elderly care. But today we can’t imagine this and we are in fear of this, like the man in the cartoon. His health depends on the robotic nurse but he’s not sure if the nurse is doing every thing right.It’s the same question we have in the text: “… what autjority are we going to delegate to [these] machines?” How can we ensure that the machines are smart enough, for example for the human physiology? I can relate this to my job as paramedic: Our devices can measure heart rate, blood pressure and so on, the devices are also interpreting the ECG, but in 80 % the interpretation is false. The human physiology is not 1 or 0, high peak or low peak, it’s much more complex.
4. I choose a technology that is very old. Since more than I think 100 years medics know that our heart is beating, using electric impulses. The technology is the defibrillation. You can defibrillate the heart with an electric shock after a heart attack to guide a heart to normal beating. in the beginning defibrillation was only possible for doctors. The technology developed further and today everyone of us can defibrillate somebody, using a AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). or everyone who has a very little defibrillator in his body.There were also many challenges in this development from the first medical used defibrillators to today’s pacemakers. For example the big problem with the patients. Why should I get a little device near my heart that can give me electric shocks? What happens if the pacemaker is not functioning correct? What happens if the battery is low? A lot of permissioned question, but they must have been answered, because today a pacemaker is a standard therapy.The manufacturers developed mathematical functions that are analysing if the heart is beating normal or if there is a heart attack. These functions are in the pacemakers and the patients trusted them. They trusted the manufacturers too, that there can’t be errors in the programming and that the batteries have high capacity, enough for a decade or more. This all depends on trust in the manufacturers and the doctors, or in the possibility to live much longer than without a pacemaker. The technology is too complex to understand it, but the wish to live is greater than the concerns. And I don’t know a case of an amok shocking pacemaker ever killing somebody.

Mein WLAN-Netzwerk zuhause funktionierte eigentlich immer zuverlässig, nur eins hatte ich noch nicht geschafft: Netzabdeckung auf dem kompletten Stockwerk. So nahm ich mich also dem Problem an und versuchte mit Hilfe des Internets, der Bedienungsanleitungen meiner Geräte und eigenen Erfahrungen einen Repeater zu installieren.

Kann ja nicht so schwer sein – dachte ich. Wars aber, denn weder die im Internet gefunden Anleitungen waren deckungsgleich noch die darin enthaltenen zusammengefassten Informationen führten zu einer Lösung des Problems. Nachdem ich also mehrere Stunden vergebens gebastelt, ich die Schnauze aber gestrichen voll hatte, habe mein Netz komplett unverschlüsselt dargelegt. Die einzigen Hindernisse die es meiner Meinung nach dann noch gab war die IP-Vergabe per DHCP und welche “Häkchen” bei welchem Repeater aktiv sein mussten – darin waren sich die verschiedenen Anleitungen nicht einig. Nun gab es also nur noch 2 hoch 2 also 4 Einstellungen und diese konnte ich ausprobieren. Ergebnis: Am Router DHCP einstellen und den Repeater mit dem Repeaterhäkchen aktivieren; beim Repeater DHCP ausschalten und den Router mit den Repeaterhäkchen aktivieren. Das die SSIDs gleich sein müssen sollte klar sein. Damit kam ich nun also überall ins Internet, allerdings war mein Netzwerk komplett unverschlüsselt. Nach weiterem ausprobieren war nur die Einstellung WEP 128-Bit eine Verschlüsselung mit der man die beiden Geräte in dieser Konfiguration als Repeater nutzen kann. Ob man den MAC-Filter einschalten kann habe ich noch nicht getestet, werde ich aber noch tun. Mein primäres Ziel ist  ja nun erreicht: komplette Wohnung inklusive Wintergarten mit verschlüsseltem WLAN zu versorgen.

Ich habe vor kurzem eine Bewebung geschrieben. Den Lebenslauf, den ich für die Schule mal geschrieben habe muss ich auch nurnoch überarbeiten und dann ist alles fertig. Um das ganze aber losschicken zu können musste ich Bewerbungsfotos machen, was ich heute nun endlich geschafft habe.

Die Fotos sind ganz gut geworden, aber man kennt es doch von sich selbst. Irgendwas am Bild stimmt nie. Niemandem, nicht mal meinen Freunden, würden die Eigenartigkeiten des Bildes erkennen, man sieht sie immer nur selbst.

Von dem her, ich belasse es bei den Fotos, und stürze mich auf die noch freien Stellen. Etwas spät bin ich zwar schon dran, doch für mein Gebiet gibt es noch Plätze. Und nach dem ABI, was ich voraussichtlich 2010 abschließen werde, heißt es dann:
